Individuals suspected of passport corruption were brought to court

#Ethiopia 10 individuals, including suspected brokers and foreign nationals, appeared in court in connection with passport corruption.

This afternoon, the suspects appeared at the Federal High Court's birthday division and their cases were heard.

Among the 10 suspects included in the record of the International Court of Justice, two brokers and two foreign nationals who allegedly participated in the crime are included.

The rest of the suspects are employees of the Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Service.

An investigator of the Federal Police Commission's Corruption Crime Division has presented the starting point of suspicion against the ten suspects.

In this way, the suspects were suspected of colluding with individuals and brokers, illegally accepting bribes ranging from 10 thousand to 300 thousand birr to foreign nationals and giving them passports and exaggerating legally registered customers and causing damage to the country's interests, he explained to the scheduled hearing.

He asked the court to give him a 14-day appointment to conduct further investigation and gather evidence.

The suspect's lawyers, on the other hand, argued against the police's request for a preliminary hearing for their client.

They stated that no more appointment should be given and argued that the rights of their clients should be protected.

The police also argued against the bail application of the suspects.

The court that investigated the left-right argument, believing that an additional investigation screening period is needed, temporarily bypassed the suspect's bail request and allowed a 14-day investigation screening period for the police.
