The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tagese Thafo, called on Ethiopians to strengthen their participation in the national consultation.

The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission's one-year and seven-month work activity was discussed today in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) and senior government officials.

In the discussion, the chief commissioner of the commission presented the work performance so far, and it was stated that the participants' inspection was done in five regions and two city administrations.

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Tagese Thafo, who participated in the discussion; He recalled that the council established the commission as an independent institution.

He mentioned that the commission is preparing a plan and a road map and dividing the work into four phases namely preparation, preparation, implementation and conclusion and feedback.

He stated that in the process so far, the preliminary preparation and preparation activities that lay the foundation for the consultation have been done well.

For example, in five regions and two city administrations, from district to participant, coordinator and agenda planning work has been done.

He stated that in areas with security problems such as Amhara and Oromia, the council and the consultation commission will carry out the rest of the work.

He assured that the council will provide the necessary support for this.

He said that when the commission was established, it is appropriate to understand that it aims to create a consensus in which the entire citizenry participates, as the political elite and the government's agenda and consultation alone did not yield a lasting solution.

He pointed out that the national consultation is for all Ethiopians and said that it is the people who seek the agenda and do the consultation.

The speaker said that the government is supporting the success of the consultation, not giving an agenda. He said that the government will accept the decisions made by the people.

He pointed out that the national consultation will be held in the middle of this year and that the government will not only create a safe and comfortable environment for the successful completion of the consultation, but also provide the necessary support, including peace-making.

Therefore, he called on all Ethiopians to actively participate and support the success of the national consultation.

He mentioned that since the establishment of the commission, the efforts being made to ensure inclusivity in the preparatory work have been confirmed by the monitoring done by the Legislative Council.
