In Uganda, the father of 102 children and 568 grandchildren finally decided to use birth control.

67-year-old Ugandan farmer Mezi Musa Hasahia has raised a huge family with 102 children from 12 wives and 568 grandchildren to his name.

Despite growing up in abject poverty in his home village of Lusaka, where polygamy is legal, he amassed enough wealth and honor to become the village headman and strive to marry for many decades.

Hasahia married his first wife in 1971 when he was 16 and continued to marry new wives until he was 12.

"Since my father only gave birth to two children, I was worried that our race might become extinct," he explained.

My late father Mwamadi Mudumba had two wives but only gave birth to two children. This has put our family at risk of extinction, Mzi Musa Hasahia told the Ugandan Monitor newspaper.

About a third of Hasahiah's children live with him and his wives, while the rest leave and start families of their own.

The 67-year-old farmer said that he did not know the names of the children in the house.
