The official gave a final written warning to Isat Television

The Ethiopian Media Authority has announced that it has issued a final written warning to ESAT Television.

In a statement sent to Fana Broadcasting Corporation, the official said that Esat Television has been repeatedly presenting reports that are unbalanced, unsupported by factual information, and can undermine the trust and unity of the people.

Thus, the institute stated that it is in violation of media decree 1238/2013, decree 1185/2012 issued to prevent and control the spread of hate speech and false information, and journalistic ethics.

For example, on February 23, 2015, the station said, "My government said that an injustice has been committed by demolishing the houses of the citizens in Sheger town of Addis Ababa, Oromia region." The voice said that the abuse of citizens was an attack based on identity.

The official explained that he has conveyed an uninformed and unbalanced report that has reached a conclusion without including the opinions and opinions of the parties mentioned in the report.

On March 6, 2015, political parties announced that Addis Ababa Mayor Adanech Abebe's speech about citizens moving into the city was antagonizing the people and violating people's right to move. Apart from demolishing the houses of the task force leading the home horse, they engaged in looting of property. 

It has been pointed out that the television station aired the above mentioned and other reports that are in violation of journalistic ethics and principles, and have gaps in fulfilling social and institutional responsibilities.

Media Decree 1238/2013 Article 68/1(a) and (b) To present programs or news in a balanced and unbiased manner to serve the entire society by reflecting different points of view. Non-compliance with established laws was also pointed out.

Therefore, the official announced that ESAT Television has been given a final written warning to refrain from transmitting information that has a negative impact on the unity of the people by broadcasting unbalanced fake reports.
