The Ministry of Innovation and Technology stated that more than 95,000 youths are attending the "Five Million Ethiopian Coders" training program nationwide.  

The "Five Million Ethiopian Coders" program announced by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr.) is a collaborative project to enhance digital work skills initiated by Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates. 

The project is being implemented with the idea of ​​"let the generation learn, let the generation train, and compete with the world" to develop their technological knowledge and make them competitive and competent at the international level.

The project is said to enable 5 million Ethiopians to acquire basic digital skills in web programming, Android development, data science and artificial intelligence in the next three years.   

Minister of State for ICT and Digital Economy at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology Dr. Yishurun ​​Alemeyehu; He said that digital skill building has been given special attention in the construction of Ethiopia's digital economy.

They mentioned that the training program for five million Ethiopian coders has been prepared based on this.

He said that this training program, which was started in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates government, will provide six weeks of training and obtain a certificate from an internationally recognized institution.

He pointed out that data science, Android development and programming training is being provided by an institution called Udacity.   

He said that in the process so far, more than 95,000 youths have registered and are taking training.

The training will be given for three years and every year every region and city administration will be given a quota of how much training they need to do, he said. 

ESA reported that they are working together to create a comfortable environment in regions where there are problems with internet and electricity infrastructure.

He mentioned that the program is part of building a generation. In this regard, apart from the government, the private sector should also support the effectiveness of the program, he said.

He also called on the youth to make themselves competitive by taking this training that will enable them to become the qualified citizens that the times require. 

Solomon Amare, Head of Innovation and Technology Office of Addis Ababa City Administration; He said that 300,000 youth in the city administration will participate in the training program. 

He pointed out that 75 thousand youths are planned to attend the training in the 2017 fiscal year. He said that 60,000 young people are attending the training in July and August alone.
