#Ethiopian | St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College Reproductive Medicine Center is working to expand its infertility treatment services.

According to the World Health Organization, if a couple has been having sex without using contraception for a year or more and is unable to conceive, at least one of them is at risk of infertility.

According to the organization, one in six people worldwide experience infertility.

In Ethiopia, infertility is a problem that has not been seen as a public health problem and has not been solved.

In order to solve this problem of infertility, St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College has opened five reproductive medicine centers (Center for Fertility and Reproductive Medicine) in Addis Ababa.

For the past five years, more than 50,000 citizens have been receiving various treatments through the service, according to Dr. Mustafa Negash, a specialist in infertility treatment at St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College.

Of these, more than 1,500 couples mentioned that they were able to have a child through IVF treatment (IVF treatment is the treatment of taking the woman's egg and taking sperm to return to the uterus after the embryo has been created in the laboratory).

Couples who come to take this infertility treatment say that if the woman is under 35 years of age, it will help the treatment to be successful.

He explained that after the center started providing services, it made it possible for couples who went abroad to receive the treatment to receive the services in their own country.

Apart from making our citizens get the treatment in their own country, they also said that they are able to provide the medical services to many neighboring countries as well.

The center currently has five branches; He said that he will work to expand the scope of services by adding branches in the regions.

ESA reported that they indicated that the supply of medicine and medical equipment is being made available.

He also explained that the college is training the qualified professionals needed by the sector in order to overcome the problem of manpower that is a bottleneck in the sector.

He stated that when couples experience symptoms of infertility, they should immediately go to a medical center for consultation and medical services.
