Residents of Aksum and Mekelle cities who gave their opinion to ESA said that the festivals of Mawlid, Demera and Cross are symbols of peace, unity and mutual support.

Sheikh Adam Abdelkader, head of Tigray Region Islamic Affairs Council, stated that we should work for religious equality and development with love and unity with Ethiopian thinking.

According to Haji Mohammad and Saeed Wahab, residents of Axum city, they celebrated Mawlid by thinking of the needy and sharing food.

He also said that this year's Mawlid and Demera holidays were held on the same day, creating a favorable environment for strengthening tolerance, respect and unity.

The followers of both religions expressed that they were able to show their solidarity in practice as the festivals are a symbol of peace, unity and mutual support.

Another resident of Aksum, Komes Abba Yohannes Gebremariam, said that followers of Islam and Christianity in the city and its surroundings have strengthened their solidarity by celebrating the Nativity and the Cross festivals together.

The fact that the Mawlid, Demera and Cross festivals are held on the same day this year is an example that the followers of both faiths can tolerate and respect each other and live together in love.

Haji Saeed Hussain, a resident of Hawalti sub-city in Mekelle, is a follower of Islam, and Mr. Daniel Zayed is a follower of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

According to the residents, together with their families, they have been celebrating both religious festivals together for 20 years together.

They said that they have been supporting not only by celebrating together but also by sharing what they have with the needy people and this year they have done the same.

Apart from celebrating religious festivals together, they also explained that their cooperation is strict in repairing their denominations together and making new ones.

He also said that when celebrating Mawlid and Demerah together on the same day, it is by asking and helping those who are in trouble for various reasons.
