The mayor of Addis Ababa city, Adanech Abebe, represented Ethiopia and won the marathon competition for the Ethiopian athletics team that is going to Valencia, Spain today.

"We have expressed our best wishes to our brave athletes so that they can elevate Ethiopia again in the world and achieve great results," said the mayor in a message posted on her social media page after the competition.

Mayor Adanech handed over a land map to the heroic athletes who won the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, as previously promised.

"We believe that the prize and the love and support of our people for the sport will be a moral boost for you to achieve more victories and results," said Mayor Adanech Abebe.
