A movement forum to strengthen cooperatives was held by Dredawa administration.

Nuredin Abdella, the head of the administration's Agriculture, Water Resources and Energy Bureau, said that the cooperatives as a country and as an administration have made significant contributions in the economic and social sectors.

Cooperatives, apart from their contribution to the economy, contribute to the economic development of their members as well as the administration, and they have expressed that it is a movement platform that has been designed to address the challenges of lack of organization, procedures and capital in the sector.

According to the official, the role of the movement in revitalizing the capacity of unions is important to fill the gap in providing enough products for industrial input.

According to the management, 1᎐116 (one thousand one hundred and sixteen) cooperatives have been established and their capital amount is more than 69 million birr.

In the movement forum, a document showing the work activities of the cooperatives at the international level in the country and as a management was presented and discussed.

In the forum, the Honorable Mayor of Dredawa Administration, Kedir Johar, stated that there are works started by supporting the cooperative unions and he said that the management will work with determination to identify the gaps in the future.

The Honorable Mayor said that cooperatives play an important role in improving the lives of farmers and reducing the cost of living.

The cooperatives, especially the farmers, are benefiting the people by collecting quality products and providing them at reasonable prices, but there are still challenges that we have not overcome in terms of overcoming the shortage, said Dredawa Prosperity Port Branch Office Manager Ibrahim Yusuf.

He said that it is believed that the lives of the farmers and herdsmen will be changed by modernizing and organizing the cooperatives, increasing their savings culture and making them get credit services.

Dredawa Management Council Speaker Honorable Fethia Adam, Dredawa Deputy Mayor and Head of Trade Industry and Investment Bureau Harbi Buh, Dredawa Prosperity Port Office Chief Ibrahim Yusuf, cabinet members and representatives of cooperatives participated in the forum.
