Mr. Demeke Mekonen discussed with foreign ministers of different countries

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonen discussed with Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez, Somali Foreign Minister Abshir Omar Hurus, Cameroon Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbela Mbela and Cote d'Ivoire Foreign Minister Kania Camara.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs consulted with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from different countries side by side at the 42nd meeting of the African Union Executive Council which started today.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tasal Amallon, said that the discussion focused on the strengthening of bilateral relations.

With this, he explained that a consultation focused on strengthening the joint commissioners of the ministers of each country and strengthening the economic diplomacy.

He explained that discussions were held on the strengthening of Ethiopia's strong diplomatic relations with the other countries and the strengthening of cooperation in the economic sector through trade and investment.

The leaders of Somalia's neighboring countries, including Ethiopia, recently held a meeting in Mogadishu with the Foreign Minister of Somalia.

He also briefed the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs on the peace agreement and explained that Ethiopia is consulting with Spain on trade and investment issues.

At the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Misganu Arga, discussed bilateral and regional issues with the Chinese Government's Special Representative for African Affairs, Special Yuxi, Principal Secretary of Kenya, Abraham Korir Singoy, ESA reported.

The 42nd meeting of the African Union Executive Council is expected to be held today and tomorrow, as well as the summit of the Union on February 11 and 12, 2015, with the theme of "accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Zone" in Addis Ababa.
