Artemator, an injectable malaria drug, has been banned

The Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority has banned the use of an injectable malaria drug called Artimetor.

The official stated that the drug was found in a market survey, which was not registered by the authority, and when the sample was taken and tested in the laboratory, it was confirmed that the substance called artemether was not found in it.

Therefore, the authority urged health professionals not to use this drug and regional inspectors at all levels to take measures by strictly monitoring their areas.

The drug is manufactured by a Chinese drug manufacturer called Shinepharm. According to the Ethiopian Food and Drug Authority, it is an injectable antimalarial drug named Artemether 80mg/1ml.
