The "lucky" mother who has been harassed by rent for more than 20 years

According to our today's storyteller Mrs. For the past 20 years, she has been wandering from house to house due to lack of rent. She has persevered through the ups and downs of life and reached today. Our narrator tells us how difficult it is to be homeless and pregnant and wandering around in search of rent.

She is among the residents of Addis Ababa who have been suffering from lack of housing as she has lived in Addis Ababa for centuries. In her efforts to conquer life and lead life, she has gone through trials and became a mother of 3 children. In the ups and downs of life, she has wandered around different sub-cities in search of rent.

In an interview with ABC Cyber, she said that the cost of rent is not in line with income, not having enough income, and adding a child to this makes the living pressure difficult. She remembers that she went through difficult situations in the rented houses where she lived, where she did not have enough rights to wash clothes, use the toilet, and bake bread.

At one time, when Basa was pregnant with her third daughter, her landlords told her that they wanted the house for renovation. Basa, who lost her entrance, started wandering around with her husband in search of a house.

Due to the housing problem she once faced, 5 family members were forced to live in one cramped room. What makes the problem worse is that there is no other extra space in the yard, so the whole family eats, sleeps and spends the night in the narrow bedroom where they sleep. She says that when she lived in a rented house, she used to find it difficult to go out wearing her new clothes, but she says that it is different for her to have trouble in a rented house.

According to her, she does not want to remember the psychological damage she has suffered in the last 20 years. She continued to save for the condominium she had been saving for many years, and is currently one of the lucky ones to own a two-bedroom. Jealous of the hard-hitting odds, she was lucky enough to win a two-bedroom condominium in the 14th round of the condominium lottery. According to her, her social relations with some landlords were good, but many of them deny me all services that are not humanely denied just because I am a tenant. She says that this idea reflected by the landlords is not an Ethiopian value. To reduce the problem, the government should provide rental houses at low rents in addition to condominiums.
