"I am very lucky to be able to hear such beauty, such music here at home" Prof. Birhanu Nega

#Ethiopia Music is called the language of the world, food for the soul, manifestation of love and truth...etc. Now and now, especially in developed countries, music is also used as medicine in the field of medicine. Much has been said about the influence of music on increased intelligence quotient and children's cognitive development in scientifically proven studies.

 Surely all forms of music wear this grace? Let's go back to our current music industry and ask if our music is really soul food or poison? As Tesfaye Gebre Azemu, are they still the food of love or are they dangerous? Will the mind build or destroy? Will they shape or destroy generations?

Music is not separate from culture, it is a manifestation of a society like language, food, clothing or lifestyle. Therefore, whether we like it or not, the current music influence is bound to be the culture of tomorrow's generation. The cumulative effect of this will either make a better country or destroy a developed country.

By the way: Music is only entertainment for us in the cities, but it has the opposite meaning for a society with indigenous culture, knowledge, philosophy, etc. There may or may not be a word for "music". In a community, when a person passes an important phase of life (Rite of passage), when doing communal work, when praying (Ritual), etc., it is connected or in short it can be just a part of a lifestyle. So when we train or train our musicians, if it is not done traditionally, it is bound to be dangerous. In any genre of music, music should be done with knowledge (formal/informal) and should not be a "try it yourself" type of open workplace.

The presence of the Minister of Education Prof. Berhanu Nega at the wonderful draft music party organized by the Jared School of Music in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic is a sign of the value of art to a society.

When I delved deeper into the music festival that I am from, the event was a concert of sketch music from the Czech group Epak Quartet and the Jared School of Music Ensemble. On that day, Ethiopian abstract music was performed together, especially the compositions of Dr. Ezra Abate, "Mnew teileyeshne" and Prof. Esenafi Kebede Belawashintu Eredi/The shepherd flutist/ were greatly appreciated and respected.

In the future, I will share in-depth information about the two compositions, but for this article, here are a few things I felt about "The shepherd flutist" during and after the event:

In what spirit of art did Prof. Ashenafi really write this wonderful piece of music? For me, The Shepherd Flutist is an excellent essay not only on the science/method of composing music, but also on what kind of unified feeling, spirit, and elevation music should possess.

Apart from the formula and the feeling of the music, another thing that interests me is the historical background in which it was made. After writing this music, Prof. Ashenafi chose to have it performed by the Hungarian National Orchestra. But it was not easy to allow the Hungarian orchestra to perform and conduct the composition. One of the two main reasons why it was not easy is how to conduct a Western orchestra that excels in abstract music style from Africa. This is because the Hungarians had an idea of how their composition would be qualified, and the second reason was that their names were only on a selected list, whether it was to conduct the Hungarian National Orchestra or to give a musical composition. However, after all this, the fiddler played the Shepherd in the Hungarian National Orchestra and was led by Prof. Winner. After the music was performed, the Hungarian people expressed their appreciation for Prof. Eshenah. The country's newspapers praised Zoltan Kodaly, who is the most respected in the country's music, using the nickname "The Black Kodaly".

In this way, Prof. Ashenafi not only proved that he was able to write black music, but also reversed the obsession of downplaying/obscuring the significance of Black artists by colonialists. I invite you to listen to the music that Jean Seum Henoch sang "Good" to say goodbye.

Melody Love Melody Life,

Where music is prayer,

Scan Alpha Base, where Jared was created;

I was created by your brother.

What else is called good?

good day
