China has granted a license for the first air taxi service to a company called Ehang

Guangzhou-based Ehang has received full approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China for the EH216-S AAV, a two-person air taxi.

Ehang is said to be the first in the world to receive such a certificate.

A company executive told CNBC that they plan to expand the service overseas next year.

The company's current certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China will give it a chance to obtain similar licenses in the US, Europe and Southeast Asia, CEO Huazhi Hu said in a video interview with CNBC.

As a result, the value of Ehang's shares doubled from the beginning of this year to one billion dollars, according to the report.
