Encouraging results were recorded when the qualifying races of 1500, 800 and 5000 meters were held in which Ethiopians participated in the Paris Olympics.

All the three athletes who represented their country reached the finals in the highly competitive women's 5000 meters which was held in the evening. Gudaf Tsegai and Elagayehu Taye, who competed in Group One, finished fifth and sixth; Madina Isa, who competed in the second category, got the second place. Following the results, all three athletes qualified for the finals on Monday night. 

In the men's 1500 meters distance qualifier held on the day, athlete Ermias Girma clocked 3 minutes, 35 seconds and 21 microseconds to finish first in category two; Also, the athlete Samuel Tefera, who participated in the third category, clocked 3 minutes, 37 seconds, and 34 microseconds and took the sixth place to advance to the semi-finals.

The athlete Abdisa Fayisa who competed in the first category finished in 14th place and will make an additional qualification tomorrow. The semi-finals will be played tomorrow night. 

In the women's 800m distance where Ethiopia was not very effective, athlete Worknesh Mesle and athlete Tsge Duguma finished their categories as one and reached the semi-finals.
