The students of Mekele University, whose graduation period was extended due to the war in Tigray, told Tikvah Ethiopia that they waited years to graduate and get their degrees, but the university still did not call them.

What did the students say?

- Previously, we held a peaceful demonstration and asked the university about the issue. The schedule was that we would take the exit exam and graduate on August 4, 2016.

- Although we took the exit exam, we left the university after the 12th grade students exam. Then we were told that you will be called in August 2016. Now summer students are also called. But nothing for us yet. They were silent.

- The federal government also allowed 3 semesters of compensation per year for students who were during the war. Then treat us properly to the compensation we are allowed.

Tikvah Ethiopia asked Mekelle University to respond to the question; "The students' complaints are correct," he said.

What did Mekele University Vice President of Administration and Development Keste Berhan (Dr.) say?

➡ We have students who have dropped out of school since 2013 due to various reasons, especially the war in Tigray region.

➡ It was decided by the university management that they should study in the summer. But according to the directives issued by the country, it was necessary to send out the regular students so that the 12th class students could be tested. 

➡ There were summer students who stopped their studies due to Corona and the war. And we accepted them. There is training for teachers. We are receiving them and training them.

➡ Due to these reasons, we could not call our regular students.

➡ Now we have as a direction to call around the beginning of September 2017 and prepare a compensation program and prepare a calendar only for the students who were going to graduate in the past years so that they can complete their studies and graduate in a short period of time.
