Mozambique agrees to allow landlocked Malawi to use part of its port

Mozambique has agreed to allow landlocked Malawi Almata to use part of Nacala Port in the north of the country.

Mozambican President Felipe Nyusi and his Malawian counterpart Lazarus Chakwera signed a memorandum of understanding last week.

According to the agreement, Malawi will lease a part of the port of Nacala in the northern part of Mozambique and use it for its export and import business.

President Nyusi also said that the agreement will strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, which are already linked by electricity infrastructure.

 

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera said; He stated that the port of Nacala will help the country to reduce the high cost of transporting goods.

 

Nakala Port is part of the Nakala Development Corridor, which is being developed jointly by Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique; The aim of the project is to facilitate access to the sea for landlocked Malawi and Zambia and to increase development connectivity in the region.
