Adam Farah, head of the Democracy System Development Coordination Center and vice president of the Prosperity Party, said that the steps taken to meet the demand for rice production in Ethiopia are bearing fruit.

 

A group of senior government officials, led by Deputy Prime Minister Temeseng Tiruneh, today visited a rice farm in Meseno Lemto, Shebelle Zone, Ber Ano District, Somali National Regional Government.

 

Ato Adam Farah on his social networking page; He said that after the success of our dream of exporting wheat beyond our domestic consumption, the steps we have started to meet our rice production needs with domestic production are bearing fruit.

 

"The multi-sector economic system followed by the country is not only contributing to the national economic growth, but also showing new aspects, the areas we know as pastoral areas have started to emerge with agricultural production," he said.

 

Adam Farah said that the national experimental program of irrigated rice production in the Shebele zone of the Somali region is the beginning of a new hope for our country, which has a natural environment suitable for rice that can cultivate up to 30 million hectares.

 

The Somali regional government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and responsible institutions and other federal institutions, has taken immediate action to study the suitable conditions for rice production and started work to cultivate rice through irrigation in 4 zones and 7 districts.

 

He said, "Ethiopia will fully achieve its goal of exporting rice next to wheat and barley in the next 2 years to satisfy the domestic demand."

 

He also stated that by strengthening the successful initiatives, the production seen in the Somali region will be a blessing not only to Ethiopia but also to East Africa and the world.
