In the Somali region, action was taken against the businesses that increased the prices

Action has been taken against 57 businesses in the Somali Region who have unjustly increased the prices of food items. 

Following the reform of the macroeconomic policy, action has been taken against the merchants who increased the prices of food commodities in the towns of Jigjiga, Kabridehar and Gode.

Abdullahi Aden, the deputy head of the bureau, told ETV that following the reform, it was confirmed through monitoring that some traders had increased the prices of oil, rice, pasta, sugar, flour and macaroni.

As a result, 57 businesses that increased their prices unjustly were sealed. The deputy head stated that he was able to create awareness among more than 1,200 traders.

They also pointed out that written warnings to administrative action have been taken against organizations that are said to have contributed to the increase in food prices by closing their business premises and storing them in warehouses without sufficient reason. 

The office indicated that the action being taken against illegal traders will continue to be strengthened and urged traders to refrain from such actions.
