Minister of Water and Energy Habtamu Itefa (Dr. E/R) said that solar water pumps in Ethiopia are a unique tool for water supply and agriculture in areas with less rainfall.

The sixth meeting of the African Regional Committee on Solar Energy Development organized by the International Solar Alliance is being held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Etefa (Dr. E/R), who is participating in the discussion, gave a presentation to the forum regarding the work and performance of solar energy development in Ethiopia.

In the explanation given by the minister on the works being implemented in Ethiopia with the support of the International Solar Alliance; He stated that the solar pump project that was built and completed in Yergachefe district in the southern region of Ethiopia is one of the most successful projects in Africa.

He pointed out that solar powered water pumps are becoming a key potential for providing clean drinking water in areas with less rain and also for using water for agriculture.

On the sidelines of the discussion, the Minister held an internet discussion with Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director General of the International Solar Alliance, on how to strengthen the cooperative activities of the institutions.

According to the information we received from the Ministry of Water and Energy, the fourth regional committee meeting of the International Solar Alliance was held in Ethiopia in 2014.
