Leaders should pay attention to ensure the sovereignty of food security in Africa and determine the future of citizens - Mr. Maryam Desalegn

 

Hailemariam Desalegn, the former Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and the Chairman of the Board of the African Green Revolution Coalition (AGRA) stated that leaders should focus on ensuring the sovereignty of food security in Africa and determining the future of citizens.

The African Green Revolution Alliance (AGRA) has appointed a new chairman for the "African Food Prize", which recognizes individuals and institutions that have opened the door to food security and economic opportunity in Africa.

 

Former President of Nigeria and former chairman of the awards committee, Olisegun Obasanjo, has handed over the responsibilities to the new "African Food Prize" chairman, former Tanzanian president Jakaya Mirisho Kikwete.

 

Hailemariam Desalegn, former Prime Minister and chairman of the board of the African Green Revolution Coalition (AGRA), who attended the program, said that the continuity of agricultural transition should be strengthened to ensure food security in Africa.

 

Stating that it is a task that cannot be said for tomorrow to ensure food security and access to nutritious food, which is urgent in Africa, he stressed that efforts to ensure food security in Africa must be coordinated.

 

They said that leaders should pay attention to determine the future of citizens by ensuring the sovereignty of food security in Africa.

 

Olisegun Obasanjo, former president of Nigeria and former chairman of the award committee, said the award will help modernize African agriculture and ensure food security.

 

He stated that the award is given to individuals and institutions who have contributed to agriculture and food security in the continent and pointed out that the exchange of knowledge, technology and experience is of multifaceted importance to the continent.

 

The new chairman of the "Africa Food Prize", the former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mirsho, expressed his happiness with the responsibility he was given, and said that he will work to improve Africa's agriculture and food security.

 

They also confirmed that they will work in collaboration with stakeholders to take the African Food Prize to a higher level.

 

Former Essex founder Dr. Eleni Gebremedhn is among the committee members of the Africa Food Prize.

 

The ESA report indicates that the "African Food Prize" will award 100,000 dollars to individuals and institutions that transform African agriculture.
