Obtaining loans from banks by securing movable property will start in a short time - National Bank of Ethiopia

The governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Dr. Ynager Dese, said that a system of securing loans from banks will be launched in a short period of time.

The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning and Development and the Ministry of Revenue, together with the Regional Planning, Finance and Revenue Offices, started a consultation forum in Arba Mojang city yesterday, which continues today.

The governor of the National Bank, Dr. Yinagar Dese, who was present at the consultation forum, said that the fact that the loan guarantee is linked to fixed assets has prevented citizens from leading a better life by getting loans.

Dr. Yi Nagar said that a decree that will improve this procedure will be announced soon. After that, he said that in a short time, he will start getting loans from banks by reserving the rights of animals, forest, land use book and patents.

It is said that the credit system will benefit the rural areas more, but the citizens with low income will also benefit from the loan.

When this is implemented, the number of 330,000 citizens who are getting loans from banks will increase significantly, said the governor of the bank, Dr. Ynager Dese.

It is said that in a country with 100 million citizens and 30 banks, the number of borrowers is only 330,000, and the borrowers are only urban investors and exporters, making it difficult to alleviate poverty.

Microfinance institutions have only 6 million borrowers and they are giving loans to only 6.5 million citizens including banks in Ethiopia.

According to National Bank Governor Dr. Ynager Dese, the loan that is supposed to solve this problem will start in the Somali region and expand to other areas.
