The National Bank of Ethiopia has officially launched a six-month campaign today that could boost foreign exchange remittances and ensure improved macroeconomic performance.  

A discussion forum was held with various banks and stakeholders focusing on remittances.  

The National Bank of Ethiopia has also announced that an application called (unite.et) is being used to open a foreign currency account and transfer money.  

An international remittance fair organized by the name of 'Debo' was held in the presence of various banks to promote and raise awareness.

It has been shown that Ethiopians living in the country and abroad and Ethiopians of birth as well as foreign nationals living in Ethiopia will get the service.  

The governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia, Mamo Mehretu, stated on the forum that the remittances sent by Ethiopians living abroad and Ethiopians of birth to their country are their contribution to the development of their country. 

Mr. Mamo urged bank managers and employees to work responsibly so that the official application is used properly. 

He said that the market-driven foreign exchange rate, which is part of the implementation of the macroeconomic reforms, has achieved encouraging results in the short term.

He pointed out that technology-assisted control and legal action will be taken to prevent illegal practices that are contrary to the implementation of the reform.
