Adwa's victory beyond territorial sovereignty

#Ethiopia There is no doubt that not only the past and present generation, but also the future generation will remember the brilliant victory of our ancestors in Adwa. Adwa's victory continues to be a mark for all the attacks in our country, a wake-up call for patriotism, and a seal of freedom.

Adwa is a great victory for Ethiopians, Africans, black people, and all the oppressed peoples of the world who fell under the palm of colonial rule. On the occasion of Adwa Fana, many freedom struggles are celebrated all over the world. Many historians have written that Adwa's victory was one of the main events that ignited the Pan-Africanism movement that freed Africa from slavery. Adwa's victory is the first of the major issues that have made Ethiopia a great place on the world stage.

However, it is appropriate to ask where our country has gone in the 128 years since the Adwa victory. It is a matter of concern to many that our country's brilliant victory against foreign slavery has not given birth to freedom, justice, development and democracy in the country. In this regard, our country is lagging behind even in comparison to many countries that have passed the yoke of colonialism. It is a sad national truth that we are lagging behind our neighbors like Kenya in many economic and political terms, not to mention the Italians whom we defeated in Adwa.

Unfortunately, instead of using Adwa's victory as a springboard to change the situation of the country, a series of oppressive systems in the name of feudalism, socialism, revolutionary democracy, and inclusion, gave birth to a dictatorial exploitative system, and made Adwa not our springboard, but our stop. Instead of using Adwan's symbolic victory to transform the country into civilization, they divided the people by class, religion, village, ideology, and ethnicity and made them "Italy and Habesha" for a quarter of a century.

Our ancestors were able to reverse the threat of direct sovereignty that faced our country with their blood and bones. The generation that succeeded them wrote their own small stories and the sovereignty of our country has been preserved. What successive generations have failed to achieve is to stop the erosion of sovereignty and unity that stems from poverty, backwardness, and political suppression.

When we commemorate the victory of Adwa, it should be by taking a determined stance to fight against the political suppression and economic misery that devalue the international honor that the victory brought us. It is important to realize that until our country is freed from economic misery and political repression, the glorious victory of Adwa and its sovereignty cannot be complete and continuous.

The patriotism of the current generation should be confirmed by the transition from authoritarian system to democracy, from anarchy to justice, from poverty to development, from conflict to peace, from backwardness to civilization. Adwa's victory will be complete when we can build a strong and prosperous Ethiopia where true freedom, development, unity, democracy and justice are guaranteed on the graves of our ancestors who fell for our freedom.

Hail to the 128th Adwa victory commemoration!
