Ethiopian Electricity Service took action against 1 thousand 77 management and employees who committed ethical violations.

In the 2016 fiscal year, the Ethiopian Electricity Service has announced that it has taken administrative measures ranging from written warnings to dismissals against 1,777 managers and employees. Out of the 1,777 managers and employees who have been dealt with, 88 have committed ethical violations in relation to the provision of services and 989 have violated the operating system and guidelines set by the institution. Ato Melaku Taye, director of the service's corporate communication directorate, told Bisrat Radio and Television that they were held responsible for violation or non-compliance.

In the past 12 months, the institution received and investigated 142 suggestions from various stakeholders regarding the provision of services and took various disciplinary measures against 88 leaders and employees who committed ethical violations, and the remaining 54 said that their cases are in progress.

According to the suggestions made by stakeholders in relation to service delivery, among the problems that have been observed are installing meters illegally, asking for bribes to install meters, not treating customers properly, delaying work for no reason and exaggerating customers, asking customers to pay for emergency repairs, accepting payment for meter installation without a receipt. And so on.

In addition to taking administrative and legal measures, Ato Melaku Taye added to Bisrat Radio and Television that he is working to establish a simple and confidential modern tipping system as customer participation is essential to prevent corruption.
